Review of the new Delta Shuttle route between New York and Chicago

Earlier this month, Delta announced that they would be offering a new shuttle route between New York-LaGuardia and Chicago O’Hare. In addition, they are offering triple Medallion Qualification Miles and triple bonus miles on all of their shuttle routes through August 31, 2010 by registering at their website.

I decided to give the route a test drive last Saturday, June 19. I was upgraded to first class in both directions.  The routes are served by Shuttle America doing business as the Delta Shuttle, using Embraer 175 aircraft with 1+ 2 seating in first class and 2+2 seating in coach. On my morning outbound flight, we were served a continental breakfast: cereal, banana, grapes, and a packaged muffin. On the return afternoon flight, we were offered a choice of a chicken pasta salad or a chicken wrap.  I opted for the chicken pasta salad, which also came with packaged bread sticks, fresh fruit, and a packaged brownie. Both flights also included the standard full beverage and snack basket service. Beer and wine are complimentary in both classes of service, while cocktails in coach are $7 and complimentary in first.  The service was in line with Delta domestic mainline first class service.
