With so many airlines like Virgin America, United, and JetBlue offering enhanced coach products that provide extra legroom, there is still the problem of BBS (Big Ball Syndrome) which causes many gentlemen to keep their legs spread wide apart. This causes major discomfort to the passengers on both sides of the BBS sufferer. It must be mentioned that symptoms of BBS are often simply imagined by men that wish they actually had BBS.
“Close your legs to married men” was one of NeNe’s most memorable remarks from the last season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. NeNe never knew that her remark would also come in handy in crowded coach cabins on airliners all over the world as “center seat” male passengers were asked to close their legs as well. Take a look on SeatGuru.com and you will only find ways to deal with legroom, but ballroom (excuse the crudeness)
We received this comment from a reader: “I have a problem with people with big ball syndrome…OK…fair enough if you have the middle seat you may take the armrest but close your f*cking legs! I don’t want to rub against you for the entire flight!”
Jetiquette (Air Travel Manners) Rule: Passengers seated in center seats should be given use of shared armrests since passengers on either side of them will have an armrest to themselves in most cases. Each passenger must take care to be sure their arms. legs or carry-on luggage does not cross over into another passenger’s seating area.

That is pretty bad…but what is worse is when you have someone in the center seat who has BGS (Big Gut Syndrome). This person, who commonly will request the seat belt extender, has the uncanny knack of taking up their entire seat to each arm rest, and continue to spill themselves over into your space. I love to fly in the window seat except for when this scenario presents itself. My first thought is “Damn…how am I going to get past this person if we have to evacuate?!” Unfortunately flying just isn’t as spacious as it used to be. I had an opportunity to walk through one of the last remaining Super Constellations (http://www.airlinehistorymuseum.com/connie3.htm) and you would be amazed how large the seats were in First Class.
BGS is becoming more of an epidemic everyday. It’s sad because it hurts so many people and there are many passengers seated to their right and left suffering in silence :0
The Constellation photos are amazing and I love that wide “runway” aisle. Great for making an impression!
BBS!! Is that why they sit that way? OMG!!
Window seat FTW!
