There is some good news for anyone who’s worried about experiencing a problem when traveling with a pet. I’ll tell you about it in a minute.
If I had my way, everyone could keep smaller dogs on their laps during the flight. There are however a couple of issues that flair up:
- Dogs sometimes snap at the flight attendant’s hand as they attempt to place something on their master’s tray (understandable under the circumstances) I’ll continue to take my chances, but it is not fair to the other flight attendants who are following the rules when one of my passengers says “Well, the other flight attendant let me keep my dog out the whole flight”
- Sometimes dogs can just be annoying due to shedding and even farting (yes, I said it) or was that the owner blaming it on the dog?
Back to the good news. Sherpa, who manufactures all kinds of soft-sided dog carriers has partnered with American Airlines to introduce a new dog carrier that includes a guarantee that your pet will be given passage onto the aircraft. That’s right, no last-minute surprises at the gate.
All you do it purchase one of the approved pet carriers and fill out the form provided at Sherpa’s website and you’re good-to-go. Go here for all of the details. Then you simply carry the form with you as you travel and presto, you can show it to any airline official that give you a hard time. If for some reason you are not able to make the trip due to being denied travel (wither yourself or your pet), you will be refunded fully from Sherpa!

Awwww…I have an 11 year old yorkie and a 2 year old human named Lucy;-)Your Lucy is adorable!
I was flying recently with a dog behind my seat and the poor thing was whining and crying — until suddenly it stopped and there was peace and quiet. It turned out the owner had the little dog on her lap where it was content and dozing. I do wish the poor thing could have been allowed to remain as a lap dog. Alas, it was busted by the FA, put back in the kennel and the whining resumed. I felt badly for the poor thing. My Italian Greyhound is too tall to fit under a seat, despite being a mere 12 pounds. He’d be fine traveling on my lap. I know it will never happen, but I do wish there was a “pet friendly” section on the plane where leashed pets could be allowed on laps — or where there were built-in compartments for them that were comfortable and soundproofed. Oh, fantasy is a nice place to visit!
keep those furry things in their carrier and dont you dare bring them out, oh and make sure to give them the sleepy pills so i dont have to hear them bark—- and NO they are not pax
I’ll take a whining, crying dog any day, over a crying baby in the mother’s lap. At least the dog’s space was paid for unlike the child in lap that gets to annoy me for FREE!!
