Dear Sky Steward,

I was on a flight from Las Vegas to Charlotte and seated next to an obnoxiously loud couple. I won’t waste your time asking you whether or not their brag filled conversation was proper Jetiquette or not because I know the answer. What I do need help with is the fact that the wife had her pedicure starved, ashy feet propped up high on the seat-back of the forward row. As I watched the in-flight film, her feet were directly in my line of sight. Sometimes her big toe actually became part of the movie.  Am I being too picky? Disclaimer: I must tell you that seeing people in the passenger seat of automobiles with their feet on the dashboard makes me ill as well.

Sincerely,

Nauseous from Nashville

Dear Nauseous,

The Sky Steward apologizes for the delayed reply, but he has been dry heaving since reading your letter. He gathers you are aware of his feelings regarding barefoot travel on planes and agrees wholeheartedly that shoes should be kept on in most cases; especially on short flights. He has taken criticism for his staunch beliefs and has admitted that everyone cannot be expected to be as tasteful as he is.

If someone chooses to remove their shoes, it should be very discreet and if at all possible hosiery should be worn. At the very least, a persons bare feet should be well manicured if they choose to extend dangerously over the line of into the Jetiquette “faux pas zone”. Shoes should be worn whenever away from one’s seat and feet should never be placed above thigh level when seated.
