Welcome to the first installment of my summer series about my recommended travel websites and tools.  Today I’d like to introduce you to FlyerTalk. Dubbed “the world’s most popular frequent flyer community,” frequent and leisure travelers can find an endless wealth of information within the forums regarding all things travel.  As states the front page,

FlyerTalk is an interactive community that provides up-to-date information on travel-related loyalty reward programs. It’s the hub that brings everyone together — from leisure travelers to mileage junkies — to converse about programs, get the latest program buzz or discuss how to maximize points or miles. You’ll even get some good general travel information!

The good news is that you don’t have to be a member to take advantage of what the site has to offer.  You can browse the forums as a “lurker” for travel news, information, alerts, and promotions.  Or if you have some inside information or just want to share your travel experiences, sign up to be a member and post away!

Here is just an example of what you can find on FlyerTalk.  Today I was looking for a rental car promo and stumbled across this thread in the MilesBuzz! forum entitled Q2 2010 Car Rental Bonus Promos! In the first post, a member named Evan! has posted what appears to be every possible car rental promotion available, along with links. It’s an amazing post, and I was able to find a promotion and a rate that met my needs.

So if you’ve never visited FlyerTalk, I suggest you head over and check it out for your summer travel needs!
