I tend to think everyone uses Twitter. When I joined up I thought I was probably one of the last people on the planet to be Twitterless. However, every day I meet people who are not Twits. (“Notwits”?) If they are college students or young adults I deliver my “at your age you need to be networking on the social media” speech. It is an impromptu affair, actually, not a script. For the rest of you “Notwits” I can only tell you that you are missing out. The Twitterverse is filled with creative and interesting folk. One of my favorites is Soichi Noguchi.
Soichi Noguchi is a 45-year-old astronaut from Yokohama, Japan currently living and working on the International Space Station. Noguchi flew to the International Space Station on Soyuz TMA-17 on December 20, 2009. He is a primary crew member (as Flight Engineer) of Expedition 22 and Expedition 23. Every day he takes a few photos out the Spacestation window and shares them with his 223,000 fans on Twitter. Talk about travel photos!
On any given day he may picture Central Park in New York, Hyde Park in London, the World Expo in Shanghai, China (one wonderful shot was opening night, just brilliant). When he is not shootingclose ups of Earth he is taking whole-Earth shots, or photos of space shuttes, or moon rises. Sometimes he posts a photo and asks viewers to identify the location — of general interest, but also an activity for the thousands of school children who follow him.
You can follow Soichi Noguchi on Twitter by clicking HERE. (You will have to sign up first, but it is easy. And for those who don’t know — you can Twitter from your computer, you do not need a phone.) And for live video action you can follow the International Space Station, and other events, on NASA television by clicking HERE
