On flight after flight, I’ve been absolutely appalled at the conditions I have seen aircraft lavatories left in by my fellow travelers. As I’ve picked up paper towels and wiped down the counter of the lavatory (yes, I sometimes clean up after other passengers), I began thinking of what a good idea it would be to present a short Jetiquette video on flights to remind passengers that the aircraft is a shared environment.
“Please Direct Your Attention to the Video for Some Important Information About Manners on this Airplane!”
- Please note the location of the toilet. In most cases it will be in front of you! Please direct flow into the opening.
- If traveling with small children or someone else who may need assistance directing their “flow” into the toilet, please assist them and then check yourself!
We put a video together to help make the airplane environment a bit more civilized taking it one area at a time. This first video tackles the lavatory.

If the toilets were a decent size and there was room to move then it would be easier to leave them in a decent state. Why are they so tiny?
Well, let’s see…..airplanes have limited space. That’s one valid reason the lavatories are not comparable in size to bathrooms at home.
