Hues of green line the interior and exterior of Beaudevin (“bow-deh-vahn”). Those hues sparkle through green wine bottles that line the wall behind the bar and in two stand-alone glass cases at the entrance. All lined up like toy soldiers ready to welcome you.

Upbeat, well-known music fills the air. You know the songs – they’re the ones you hum to. The atmosphere is so relaxing that you’ll forget you’re in an airport. Keep an eye on that time so you don’t miss your flight!

Beaudevin is my favorite spot in MIA and is a one-of-a-kind airport wine bar. Located in Terminal D right across from gate D24, I find myself here every single time I’m in Miami, no matter my departure gate (thanks to the Sky Train, which makes galavanting around Terminal D very easy).   In fact, this morning I sat down at the bar for a pre-departure mimosa and breakfast. My adorable, attentive server, Andrea, actually recognized me from previous visits. It’s kindness like Andrea’s that really make the Beaudevin experience a gold medal one.

My typical pre-departure breakfast consists of a mimosa and Beaudevin’s hand-crafted bagel served with herbed cream cheese. The bagel is large, toasted and warm, accompanied by a fresh bunch of red grapes. A fabulous deal at just $4. If you’d like Scottish smoked salmon, just add a buck-fifty.

The stemware here is gorgeous. My champagne flute is very tall and luxurious. The wine glasses are so elegant and weighty that you automatically stick that pinky finger out when drinking from them. Love this attention-to-detail as I cannot stand drinking wine or any other spirited beverage from inferior, cheap glasses. Icky.

Speaking of wine glasses, three charming chandeliers dangle gracefully from the ceiling. What’s so special about that? They’re adorned with wine glasses! Clever and cute!

The menu is well-rounded and perfectly suited to Beaudevin’s impressive wine menu.  Following is just a teeny sampling of Beaudevin’s not-so-standard wine list. Since I’m a chardonnay & cabernet drinker, that’s what I’ll focus on here because that’s what I’m familiar with. As a side note, reds dominate the wine list. However, there are enough whites & bubblies to make everyone happy.

A cabernet from Napa Valley’s Alexander Valley is a treat. Don’t miss the Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (2006). 3oz $16.6; Glass $30; Bottle $90.

California’s Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay from the Russian River Valley (2008) is a great crowd-pleasing chardonnay. 3oz $6.20; Glass $13; Bottle $50.

Most of what Caymus Vineyards produces is unbelievably tasty and the fact that you can order a glass of it (in lieu of a bottle, which it typical amongst restaurants & bars) is very exciting. The cabernet sauvignon from this Napa Valley vineyard doesn’t disappoint (2008). 3oz $17.80; Glass $32; Bottle $125.

Not to worry, there are plenty of lower-priced wines on the menu.

  1. Good call on Beaudevin! I stumbled in here on long layover and it was a really pleasant surprise. Hummus was superb and the winelist was a good blend of known and unknown for me.

My only wish is that they had a couple of more flights to choose from.
