It was a privilege for Gailen and me to attend the grand opening celebration of Deerfield Beach, Florida’s newest ocean-front resort, Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort. As an added benefit, we enjoyed an overnight stay at this chic, stylish, comfy resort and I was able to experience and appreciate first-hand the attention-to-detail with which all spaces of this hotel were designed.
What Can Become of an Old Ho-Jo? Well…
Folks who have visited Deerfield Beach in the past will recognize the location as the home of the old Howard Johnson. Of course, it looks nothing like it’s predecessor now. Both the interiors and exteriors of this distinctive beachfront property have been completely refreshed and the result is a fabulous resort that proudly boasts the new life that has been breathed into it.
Guest room upgrades include floor-to-ceiling window views in every room, over-sized wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, complimentary wired & wireless internet (as it should be), and Wyndham’s comfy signature Be Well® bedding.
The Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort’s transformation involved every square inch of the property including banquet facilities, meeting rooms as well as the business and fitness centers. So we would definitely recommend this as a destination for a family, corporate retreat or wedding. I can hear the bells and I would love an invitation! There was a gorgeous wedding display presented by Daniel Events near the Main Ballroom. In fact, The Sky Steward was asked several times if he was Daniel. I guess he could look like a wedding planner, right?
What was old is new again: a visual tour showcasing Wyndham’s attention-to-detail
The hotel lobby exudes a warm chic atmosphere. Reds, browns and dark woods welcome travelers; whimsical light fixtures create visual interest and are a preview of the details travelers will experience in their guest rooms.

Look at the orange bed cover. See how is makes the blue of the ocean pop? Attention-to-detail like this is all over the resort.
My room, #310, was an ocean-front room with an outstanding view. I was first struck by the beauty of the room’s colors – the warm orange bedding really made the blues of the ocean pop. And, that was just the beginning…
The shower was delightful. So refreshing to have a frameless glass shower enclosure versus the standard tub-with-shower-curtain ensemble that frequents most hotels.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t talk about the lighting in the bathroom. While scouting around for you, I stay in countless hotels. Unfortunately, virtually all of them have horrible lighting in the bathroom. How in the world am I to properly apply make-up in a dimly lit bathroom? That’s not the case at Wyndham’s Deerfield Beach Resort. It ranks as one of the best-lit hotel bathrooms I’ve ever used. That’s a major plus for me!

One of my favorite in-room details: the hanging louvered door that separates the bathroom from the bedroom. Fabulous touch!!!
The door that separates the bathroom from the living room isn’t your standard door. It’s a hanging louvered door that easily glides into place. Not only does this barn-style door add distinctive style to the room, it’s function is unmistakable. That function is two-fold: it offers privacy AND it makes the room appear bigger because there’s no large, obtrusive traditional-hinged door to get in the way.
More attention-to-detail here with the bedside cotton-bordered jute rug.
A final word on Wyndham as a hotel & resort group
I have long said that a hotel’s appeal for me lies primarily with its staff. After all, it’s the staff that can truly make or break a leisure or business hotel experience. As guests during Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort’s grand opening celebration, we had an opportunity to speak anonymously to many of the resort’s staff, as well as with the property’s and even Wyndham’s upper management. With employees who are as approachable as the ones we encountered – well, let’s just say they left us with a great positive feeling about this property, Wyndham as a company and how they operate as a brand.

An amazing transformation
A Few of The Sky Steward’s Favorite Things About the Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort
- A convenient pantry is located to the right of the front desk with piping hot Starbucks plus a variety of snacks, beverages and toiletries.
- Great boardwalk restaurants only steps away including Oceans 234 which we adored!
- Pet Friendly Property! A twenty pound limit and a $35 per night pet-fee are the only things keeping your pet from a seaside escape! Check pet-friendly dining and park options in Deerfield here.
- The Staff! After a noisy false fire alarm, each and every employee offered their own heartfelt (and The Sky Steward definitely knows the difference) apology.
- The history! This property has been owned and operated by the Chase Family for 40 years and they’ve seen to it that this property is well positioned for the next 4o.
Note: I visited this property as an invited guest to the hotel’s opening celebration. However, this does not impact my opinions and I do not sugarcoat my reviews. Date of stay: March 30, 2011.
