Gailen & Carole at One Flew South. ATL, Concourse E (just to the left of the escalators).

Located in Concourse E in Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, this fine dining establishment sets the bar for all other airport-located restaurants.  Yes, I said, “fine dining.”

One Flew South is a wonderful, luxurious concept for airport dining.  Sure, there are enough dinky little airport food joints from which to grab a pre-flight or post-flight bite, which typically translates to icky food and drab environments.  One Flew South is *not* one of those dinky little joints.

You know the moment you enter the restaurant that this place is different.  Super friendly staff (compared to the droids of standard airport food stops).  Innovative modern atmosphere and furnishings (yes, those chairs are indeed comfy) combined with an intuitive menu and cocktail listing truly make this a place worth your precious airport time.

Tips

Schedule a layover. Flying nowadays is greatly enhanced by actually scheduling layovers so you can enjoy airport joints. Even if your flight lands in Concourse T, navigating to Concourse E is a cinch. Just use the airport train.  Once you arrive in Concourse E,  hop on the escalator and ride up to the gate area.  There to your left is One Flew South.  If your timing is right, you’ll be greeted by the soothing sounds of the piano player in the Centerpoint, which you can hear from inside the restaurant.

Don’t miss the Concourse “E” 1⁄2 pound Kobe Burger with Goat Cheese, Shitake Mushrooms, Frisée and Five-Spice Fries.  Kobe is such a great beef that you can order it medium rare and be fine.

Don’t miss the Arugula Salad with Ten-Spiced Pecans, Apple Butter, Cranberries and Onion Vinaigrette. I have to confess that the thought of apple butter in my arugula salad was icky. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how it brought out the peppery flavor of the arugula and complimented the rest of the salad ingredients. Whoulda thought?!?

One other thing to note: if you’re travelling by yourself, ask for a seat at the bar. The bartenders there are very outgoing, and odds are you’ll have some nice conversations with fellow patrons at the bar. I love eating at One Flew South – the food is always excellent.

Hi John! Great tip for sitting at the bar. Next time I’m at One Flew South I’ll do just that.
