Has that airline blanket you’re snuggling with been sleeping around? Is it time for you to travel with your own travel pillow and blanket?
We’ve all seen many articles examining the scary condition of communal blankets and pillows being provided on airliners. Many airlines have reduced the number of flights which these are provisioned on, but whenever you are lucky enough to find one you have to wonder where it has been or who it’s been sleeping with.
When you find a blanket and/or pillow wrapped in plastic, you are safe. I have walked through the airline warehouses where the shipments are received and I can tell you that they are not just taking used pillows and blankets and re-wrapping them. The problem comes mostly with short haul airliners that have very little ground time in between flights. Flight crews and/or cleaning staff have a very short period of time in which to refold blankets, tidy cabins, and service the lavatories. Your blanket on these flights may have been used by a very large group of people by the time it is removed from the airplane and discarded or cleaned.
As if we needed one more thing to pack in our suitcase, a travel blanket or pillow might be the answer. Not only will you avoid the horror of a blanket with tales to tell, you may be a lot more comfortable. Here are two travel blankets that have what it takes transform your next flight from disgusting to delightful:
Blanc de Chine offers what I think is the world’s most luxurious travel blanket. This blanket is made of 100% silk in a gorgeous two-tone blanket which is available in dozens of colors. It’s lightweight and rolls up to fit inside a matching silk bolster slipcover that come with it. It may be used as a neckroll pillow or as a plush blanket to keep you warm in the coldest temperatures & you”ll look and feel marvelous
Westin Travel Blanket:If you’ve ever stayed at a Westin Hotel, you know how easily you can fall in love with their “Heavenly Bed” concept. Westin has developed quite a business through its Heavenly Bed Collection available for use at home. Their travel blanket offers this trademark luxury and comfort on-the-fly. The blanket measures 50 x 72 inches when unfolded; when folded into its attached pocket, it serves double duty as a plush travel pillow. The Heavenly Travel Blanket ($60) is available online at www.westin.com/store.

Rhett out
I have never trusted airline blankets or pillows but on a recent flight to Heathrow I was appalled to see a man actually hold his pillow against his face everytime he sneezed. Guess he didn’t want to spread his germs!
Another great luxury travel blanket set is called The PamBee. You can see all the designs at http://www.pambee.com. It was designed by a flight attendant for the passenger seeking as much comfort and luxury while traveling. Happy Travels!
These blankets are incredible. I love them so much, I’ve asked Pam herself to let us carry them in the Dear Sky Steward Store. Watch for them soon!
